Madrid to Lisbon by train

To travel by train from Madrid in Spain to Lisbon in Portugal, you have three options. Choose the best one for you. First one by night train from Madrid or Irun to Lisbon. Second one in the North from Vigo to Porto. And third one by bus in the South from Seville to Faro.

Route 2.2

Seville to Faro

To travel from Sevilla (Spain) to Faro (Portugal) you have to use a bus. There is no direct train available. The journey time is 2,5 hours. Bus tickets are available from 8 Euro.

If you want to travel by train, it is a big detour. You first have to travel to Madrid (Spain). From Madrid by night train to Lisbon (Portugal). And then from Lisbon to Faro.

Vigo to Porto

There are only two rail links between Spain and Portugal: the night trains from Madrid and Irun to Lisbon and the "Celta" trains in the north from Vigo to Porto. There is no rail connection in the south. When travelling between Sevilla to Faro we recommend to take the direct bus instead.

Porto to Lisbon

To travel from Porto to Lisbon by train you have frequent direct connections every day. Second class tickets are available from 9,50 EUR and first class tickets from 22,50 EUR. The journey time is about three hours and depends on your selected connection. There are "Alfa Pendular" (AP) trains which are a bit more expensive and the classic "Intercidades" (IC) trains.
